About Us

Established in 1983 by Paul and Diane Smith, Golden Rain Nursery has evolved into a wholesale supplier of trees, palms, woody ornamentals, perennials, annuals, specialty plants and bulk mulch. Originally started in south St Petersburg, Golden Rain is now located in the Disston area of St Pete, close to the interstate and within easy access from the entire Tampa Bay area.

The name Golden Rain comes from a time when there was a long period of drought. When the drought ended and the rains finally came, Paul said that the rain seemed like gold, hence the name Golden Rain Nursery.

In December of 2005, Chuck and Debra Butler purchased Golden Rain. Chuck and his family had owned Butler's Nursery in Pinellas Park for over 40 years. Although Butler's Nursery was sold in order to purchase Golden Rain, Chuck's many years of experience in the field of agriculture and landscaping have only enhanced the service at Golden Rain. Together with Debra's many years of experience as a City Planner and her administrative skills the Butlers are able to provide excellent customer service in all aspects of the nursery.

We would be remiss not to mention Ron Belko, Jr who has worked for Chuck for 20 years as of the year 2008. Ron is the go-to person for any questions regarding landscape design, pests, plants and many other areas in the field of horticulture.
